Jupiter with GRS and Io

The Great Red Spot

Posted on August 22, 2020August 29, 2020 by FlyerOne

The Great Red Spot is a persistent storm on Jupiter’s southern hemisphere. It has been continuously observed since 1878. There are some earlier observations of a storm on Jupiter dating back to the 1600s. If it is the same storm it has been raging on for over 350 years or so.

Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is 1.3 times the diameter of Earth with cloud tops extending 8km above the surrounding clouds.

Visible as well on the picture (on the right) is Io, Jupiters closest moon.

Never thought I’d say it but I am not that happy with the quality of the picture as its a bit oversharpened and texturized so I might have another go at it later. Registax 6 is still black magic in some regards to me.
